following a resurgence of youth churches and alternative christian societies in loughborough, i observed a rift between them and the older and more traditional churches which remained under-used. i responded to this unusual situation by examining the similarities between each group. three 2-metre long vinyl tattoo images were installed down the aisle of a working church. the depictions (they contained a skull, a knife, a crown and a microphone) were individual symbols of faith and included many of the same bible quotations that existed in the stained-glass windows in the background.
the final photographic triptych shows (from left to right) a female vicar, a tattoo artist cum- evangelical missionary, and a member of one of the new christian societies, each standing with their favourite of the three tattoos.
