Parchment & Palimpsest is a series of artworks inspired by the parchmenteer's process of 'palimpsestry'- the scraping away of old documents and re-use of old parchment.
With each artwork, and accompanying film, a sequence of likenesses and/or names of British dieties are written onto stretched parchment, then scraped away. This proccess is repeated on the same spot with each new addition by a subsequent deity 'over-writing' the last.

Remnants of the old characters remain but continue to degrade with each scraping.
Text used progresses chronologically from 'Roman Shorthand' to 'The Black Letter'- the last British calligraphic script before the printing press.

As part of this series, blackboards have also been created that undergo a similar processes to the palimsest. The video of the process is then projected back onto the board itself.
