a feast of dead gods 2007

the feast of dead gods are a series of handmade monoprints, representing indivuals consuming deities that are no longer revered.

the artworks take inspiration from the etchings of early european settlers to south america in the 16th century, who depicted scenes of cannibalism among the local tribes. this at a time when christianity demanded that the 'old gods' be discarded, and that any non-compliance was a sign of cannibal mentality.
