Sugar Artefacts is series of sculptures and installations that decay over the period of exhibition. All sculptures are made from studies of British archaelology. Mostly they are deities that are no longer revered, and make reference to both loss of these characters, as well as referencing Stevenson's earlier works such as The Feast of Dead Gods.
The food element is an important factor within the work, consumption and absortion (both actual and metaphorical) being key themes in earlier works. Sugar in particular being representative of decadence and associated with preservation, yet here it is emphemeral, and visually similar to the decay of cast iron or bronze over many hundreds of years.
